Alright, now im fully invested, lets get all these campers in one spot. Post up the BEST, and most awesome car (bus, truck, whatever) campers you can find. I know the FP has done this in the past but while we’re on the topic of camping, I might as well not get anything done this morning.
My vote goes to the Terrawind.
Overland is great and all, but what about overland AND water? Okay, so lets see the strangest and best. Post em up here and not in new posts to keep the clutter down.

But love this one.

I love the concept of the TerraWind, but it looks like a stiff breeze is going to make the thing roll right over. I know it’s not gonna happen, but still...

Tent camper...for your smart!!!

yeah, it looks goofy but is has a super low CG, and it comes with outriggers for when you need them.

Looks like it still manages a nearly 20 degree departure angle - ridankulous.

Ye’, probably a better one would be.

The “Duh” response. For when you have to be seen as able to do anything...

man, those early mogs barely get out of their own way empty...sure it can do anything...so long as that thing isn’t “more than 50 mph”
![]() 07/22/2015 at 12:28 |

I want one something fierce.

as long as we are on the topic of long wheelbase camping...

To be fair, most *houses* cannot get out of their own way, so in fact, you are getting the full “driving a house” experience.
Unless I have secretly built a house that goes over 50MPH.

For some reason I really want to buy an NV200 and camp in that.

So I’ve told you about the cavalcade of comedy that was the smart car campers right? Zion main camp ground, we had set up and were relaxing when a smart from someplace back east rolls up and parks in the spot next to use. Out come two huge guys...then their huge packs...then their cooler, and their tent and...so on on so on. I noticed later when they left that they literally were holding gear on their laps and stuffed into every possible crevice. They drove Cross country like this! Crazy.

Or well, it’s well known that the Rambler had seats that folded down into a bed. But did you know that Studebaker offered such seats as an option on the Lark? As well as a limited slip diff? And a retractable station wagon roof?
I wonder how rare it is to find all three in one car. Because I want that car.

retractable roof? what a lark! Its like the Envoy XUV of its time.

Muahahaha no I haven’t heard that one!! And it’s not too far fetched, I’m no stranger to packing the car to the brim. I couldn’t imagine how uncomfortable that is though!

Yeah, that freaks me out a little bit.

what reason, what reason would that even be?

When people convert these into campers:
I remember reading some really amazing build thread on one of these but I can't seem to find any working links!

Makes you wonder if that trip started with a “You know what would be hilarious?”
![]() 07/22/2015 at 15:18 |

if thats how is started, thats certainly not what it felt like after crossing the country...or at least thats what their faces said.

I had to show you that. A buddy of mine showed me that many years ago. Allegedly the guy had to inflate the rear tires to something like 160 psi to keep them off the rims.
The real ultimate camper has to be the Kiravan. Photo courtesy of kiravan.net .
